New Britain Food Larder wants to give a huge shout-out to those in the Central Bucks community who have been supporting us during these trying times. Your support has been overwhelming.

You have dropped off over 13,000 pounds of food to us. From non-perishables, frozen items, fruits, dairy, breads and baked goodies and cleaning supplies and — most importantly — toilet paper.

We have received monetary donations as well from foundations, businesses and families who live in our community and who care so very much about the needy. Our donations have come from as far away as Maryland, Rydal, Southampton, Lansdale and Gwynedd.

With a safety person working with us, we are serving our clients each week so that everyone coming to pick up food as well as all the volunteers are staying safe. We definitely are practicing social-distancing. We only have four volunteers working with us and they are the same each week. This is to keep the number of people to a minimum who are coming in and out of the building. Clients do not get out of their cars. Our volunteer puts their donations in the trunk of each person’s car. Many clients roll down their windows or honk their horns in appreciation as they are leaving.

My one disappointment during this time is that so many of you from the community have volunteered to come in and help, but we need to stay safe and keep our volunteers limited.

Our safety guy wears cowboy boots and hat when he is working with us. A couple of weeks ago a little girl came through with her mom and saw him. She asked if he was a “real cowboy” because she had never met one. She was so happy to meet him, she came back and asked to take his picture so she could paint him. She then gave him a rock she had painted. He was thrilled to be making that little girl so happy.

I know I am speaking for many people that we all hope this will be over soon and life as we know it will be back. But, for many of our needy families, this may not happen so we will always be here for them.

God is good!!
